Can Easy Credit Report you to the Credit Bureau
Let us be absolutely clear about this because these predatory apps often use threats of "credit bureau reporting" as a fear tactic to force payment.
How legitimate credit bureaus actually work:
Credit bureaus (such as CRC Credit Bureau, First Central Credit Bureau, and others in Nigeria) are regulated financial institutions that collect and maintain credit information from licensed financial entities. When a legitimate bank, microfinance bank, or registered lender reports a borrower's payment behavior, that information becomes part of the borrower's credit history and can affect future borrowing ability.
Why this app cannot report you:
Illegal and unlicensed loan apps do not have any relationship with official credit bureaus. They cannot report you because:
- They are not registered with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) or any legitimate financial regulator
- They do not have the legal standing to participate in the formal credit reporting system
- They operate entirely outside the regulated financial ecosystem
- The credit bureaus would not accept data from an unlicensed, illegal operation
What they are actually threatening you with:
When they say "we will report you to the credit bureau," they are lying. They have no ability to do this. What they might do instead is:
- Add your name to their own internal blacklist that they share with other illegal loan apps
- Threaten to publish your information (which is a crime)
- Claim they have "filed a report" that will affect your credit (they have not)
The bottom line: This application cannot touch your official credit score. Their threats about credit bureaus are empty intimidation tactics designed to make you panic and pay. Do not fall for it.
